Experience Puerto Plata
- Home to some of the best kitesurfing in the world
- Ride up teleferico for amazing mountain views
- Admire stunning 19th-century Victorian houses and military fortresses
From mountaintops to neoclassical cathedrals and stunning beachsides, when it comes to variety Puerto Plata is hard to beat. The city's collection of well-preserved 19th-century Victorian homes and Neoclassical buildings gives Puerto Plata a distinct charm and heritage. A highlight of any city tour is a ride on the Teleferico up Mount Isabel de Torres that boasts a Statue of the Redeemer akin to the one in Rio de Janeiro. The views from the top are breathtaking on a clear day and you can also take a stroll in the city's botanical gardens. Along the coast you'll find Cabarete, a world centre for kite surfing. But if rest and relaxation are on your vacation agenda, Puerto Plata has numerous tranquil sandy beaches including peaceful lagoons and coves with stunning views of mountaintops in the distance. There are excellent surfing and snorkeling opportunities at several of Puerto Plata's beaches, making it easy and fun to get moving on or in the water.
